Although initially they caused doubts, the choice of known public personalities to play some characters – such as rapper 50 Cent while Balrog or wrestler Cody Rhodes as Guile – proved right. However, the same does not happen with wrestler Roman Reigns while Akuma.
Although it only appears at the end of the film, the villain Akuma has a constant presence throughout the film and is a source of internal conflict in Ryu. Unfortunately, the characterization – which could have been done by some “cosplayer” – does not do justice to the imponence and impact that the villain should have on the film and the final sequence becomes anticlimatic, seeming to have been done hastily. This would not be such a big problem if Akuma were a mere secondary character, but the film makes it a point to raise the importance of the villain and thus his entry into the scene leaves to be desired.
In conclusion, this new adaptation of “Street Fighter” is a proposal that the connoisseurs of the 1994 film will certainly enjoy going to the movies and that is guaranteed fun. As a fan of “Street Fighter”, it was nice to notice all the references and see actors who clearly enjoyed making a film that, all in all, ends up achieving exactly what they proposed – even if it is not successful with all the elements.
