News to Minutes
Remembering that the Minute News was to talk with the director of “18 Holes for Paradise”, by João Nuno Pinto.
In this film, which premiered on June 10, the cast has names such as Beatriz Batarda (Catarina), Margarida Marinho (Francisca), Rita Cabaço (Susana), Luisa Ortigoso (Alma) and Jorge Andrade (Lourenço).
Among family conflicts (such as issues related to inheritances, which generate discussion in various families), social inequality, climate change, with the issue of very present fires, as well as real estate speculation, are several themes portrayed in this “18 Holes for Paradise” and which, as João Nuno Pinto says, are all “connected”.
The Minute News also spoke with Margarida Marinho, who also said that “‘18 Holes for Paradise’ is a historically and politically very present film”. “There are many issues that are involved in the climate crisis that have to do with major political decisions.”
In relation to his character, Francisca, he said that “he had access to a ceramic workshop and this transported it to a relationship with matter, water and land, which enriched the way in which one deals with the tactile experience, and the connection that Francisca had to earth”.
Rita Cabaço shared with the Minute News that “for this film she had the help of a person who is a nurse and the mother also suffers from dementia.”.
“ The circumstances are very similar to Susana's. [...] It helped me a lot to understand the contours of this disease, of dementia, and the difficulty it is for a person who has a family and effective connection to be able or not to bear caring for a mother with this disease. Because it's a disease that completely transforms the person. More than being recognizable or not being recognizable is also violence that sometimes generates.”
