O presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro promised today that if he is elected he will make cashback to consumers of a part of the PIX used in the payment of electricity bills and payments.
The announcement, five days from the second round, was made in an advertising video published on the social networks of the campaign coordinator for economic affairs of Flávio Bolsonaro, Daniella Marques.
Pix is Brazil's instant payment system, created and regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB). Launched in November 2020, it revolutionized the way Brazilians move money, becoming the most used means of payment in the country.
«Flávio will create a reward plan for everyone in Brazil, and the Vira PIX. Bill of light, provision, fee, everything you pay, a part goes back in your pocket”, informs the campaign video.
The proposal of the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro to return some of the money to consumers did not detail what other invoices, benefits and fees would be covered.
The campaign video also does not inform what the cost of the measure will be and its impacts on the public coffers, in the context in which the candidate of the PL has promised to make a "treasure", that is, large cuts of expenditure, in criticism of his opponent, President Lula da Silva.
This is the second measure announced by Flávio Bolsonaro today, after promising earlier that if elected, it will resume a tax deduction program, extinguished in April 2025, which helped the sectors of events and parties impacted by Covid-19.
Created in 2022, the so-called “Perse” (Emergency Resumption Program of the Event Sector) had an impact of more than 50 billion reais, about EUR 8.87 billion in the current exchange, until its closure.
The idea of the PL candidate's "cashback" resembles the model approved in the Tax Reform on consumption, and the main difference is that the rule approved by the Brazilian Congress will only be valid for the low-income population.
Flavio's initiative already implies that the 'Vira PIX', i.e. return of part of the money, would be for everyone.
