Mislanders of faithful from different countries are heading to Fatima to participate in the international pilgrimage of 12 and 13 October. If you are going on pilgrimage on foot, the Public Security Police (PSP) has “essential rules” of security for you – which you really have to read.
In seven points, the PSP explains, in a message published last Sunday through social networks, the security actions it must take on its way to Fatima on pilgrimage, so as to see, be seen and not take risks.
What are the road safety rules? PSP recommendations:
- Always walk facing traffic
“ Always walk the left side of the road. In this way, you can see the cars approaching you and have reaction time if a vehicle deviates ", advises the PSP.
- Walk in an Indian queue
“ Never walk side by side on the road. Keeping the Indian queue minimizes the occupation of the track, does not block the passage of other pilgrims and drastically reduces the risk of being hit by a car”.
- Be highly visible
“ Wear light clothes during the day. The use of a reflector vest is essential and mandatory at night, at dawn or in conditions of poor visibility. During the night, the first element of the group must carry a flashlight with white light (turned forward) and the last one a red light (turned back) ", also sees the security force.
- Cross with extreme care
“Always use treadmills when they exist. Otherwise, choose straight with good visibility; never cross close to tight curves, confused crossings or bumps”.
- Continuous hydration
The PSP also recommends: “Drink water often, in small sips, even before feeling thirsty. Dehydration causes cramps and mental confusion”.
- Go to the support posts
“Do not hesitate to stop at the care stations scattered along the main routes to treat muscle pains as soon as they arise,” he adds.
- Support cars
“ Support vehicles should never run at low speed behind pilgrims. This creates traffic lines, irritates other drivers and provides dangerous overruns that put the group at risk. Support cars must advance and wait for pilgrims in spacious and safe places, totally outside the lane ", ends publication.
Remember that the international pilgrimage of 12 and 13 October, which brings together thousands of faithful from different countries, is presided over by the Archbishop of Braga, José Cordeiro.
The program includes on Monday, at 5:30 p.m., the Eucharistic procession and, at 9:30 p.m., the third in the Capeline of Apparitions, followed by the candle procession.
The pilgrimage, which marks the conclusion of the annual cycle of the great international pilgrimages held between May and October, ends on Tuesday morning with the international mass and the procession of farewell, in the prayer room.
