O Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) today arrested a teenager following the warning issued on Saturday by the United States of a possible terrorist attack on a popular museum park in southern Moscow.
“ As a result of the investigation carried out, a teenager of Russian citizenship was arrested (...) He posted pictures taken in the Tsaritsyn museum park with the message: ‘I found a place’, indicated the FSB press department on its official website.
According to the entity, the teenager published images on the TikTok network in which he appeared dressed in a military uniform and tactical equipment, a balaclava (part covering the head and almost all the face), a cap, glasses and headphones, and an object similar to an automatic weapon.
The intelligence service thanked “the American side for the information provided.”.
The FSB stated that after receiving the message from the US Embassy in Moscow, it conducted an investigation with the Russian National Guard, the Ministry of Interior and the Russian Research Committee (CIR).
“ Based on the information received, the cultural activities planned in the reserve museum were cancelled to ensure the strengthening of security and public protection measures in the area,” Russian intelligence services indicated.
The military equipment and accessories shown in TikTok's video were confiscated at the home of the teenager in custody.
In addition, they were found on the mobile phone of the smallest “numerous Internet searches on terrorist attacks, mass killings and other violent actions”, in addition to demonstrating that they subscribed to a neonazi channel on the Telegram platform.
The authorities are assessing the measures to be applied to the prisoner.
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow warned the Russian authorities on Saturday of a “royal threat” of terrorist attack with numerous victims in the Tsaritsyn museum park, and called on US citizens not to visit this cultural institution.
The FSB confirmed that it had received the information from the US side and claimed to be taking appropriate action.
The authorities later closed the park.
The museum, located in the south of Moscow, occupies more than 405 hectares and combines palaces of unique neo-Gothic architecture with extensive forests, bridges and lagoons, which made it one of the favourite sites of the Moscovites.
The US Embassy in Moscow issued a similar warning two weeks before the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Council in Moscow, in which Islamists massacred 151 people in March 2024.
