O Madeira Airport is today conditioned due to bad weather, with several cancellations and flights to diverge, according to ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal.
According to the information available on the ANA website, consulted by Lusa around 11:30, 13 arrivals and 11 departures were cancelled, especially in the afternoon and evening.
This morning, two flights diverged and one was cancelled, and most aircraft managed to land despite adverse weather conditions.
ANA warns that adverse weather conditions may condition the operation in the coming days, advising passengers to confirm the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
The archipelago of Madeira is today under yellow warning because of rain, sometimes strong, persistent and accompanied by thunder, until 18:00, then passing the orange warning until 03:00 Sunday.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) also issued yellow warning because of the strong wind, which will pass into orange between 6:00 and 00:00.
The captaincy of the Port of Funchal today issued a bad weather warning for the Madeira archipelago, signal 2, corresponding to winds between the 63 and 74 km/h, replacing what had been issued earlier, which pointed to winds between the 51 and the 62 km/h of any direction.
The captaincy also issued warnings of strong wind and bad visibility, for the archipelago, until 06:00 on Sunday.
The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high-risk weather situation” and yellow when there is a “risk situation for certain weather-dependent activities”.
According to IPMA, continental Portugal and the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores will be affected from Sunday until next Friday by heavy rain and wind and sea agitation following a depression centered north of the Azores, called Bruna.
