Cdid you start to hear a “piii” still in a completely silent environment? After all, what does that mean "piii" mysterious and sudden?

Mayo Clinic Press reports that this is a common problem and affects about 15% to 20% of people especially more common in the elderly.

But that doesn't mean he's getting old or having hearing problems.

Is ringing in your ears a sign of hearing loss?

“ In most cases, tinnitus is associated with hearing loss, especially hearing loss related to age or induced by sounds. However, it can also occur without hearing loss”, describes the World Health Organization (WHO).

How to identify this type of tinnitus?

“ It can be seen in an ear, both ears or inside the head. Tinnitus can be constant or intermittent. The sound perceived by a person with tinnitus can be continuous, pulsatile (synchronized with heartbeats) or rhythmic. These different types of tinnitus may have different causes. Tinnitus may be acute (duration less than 3 months) or chronic (more than 3 months).”

In statements to Mayo Clinic Press, audiologist Jamie Bogle relates tinnitus to the perception of sounds that effectively do not exist in certain environments.

This is the most common explanation for this type of noise

Tinnitus is usually caused by an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a problem in the circulatory system. For many people, tinnitus improves with the treatment of the underlying cause or with other treatments that reduce or mask the noise, making tinnitus less noticeable.

In addition to these conditions, the WHO points out other possibilities that may be behind this phenomenon:

Age-related hearing loss
Exposure to too high sounds
Ear infections
Excessive accumulation of wax in the ears
Taking medicines that cause hearing problems (also known as ototoxics).

Other relevant causes that may explain the phenomenon are:

Head or neck injuries
Acoustic neuromas (also known as vestibular schwannoma, a benign tumor in the vestibular nerve, associated with balance, movement and position of the head)
Muscle tension in the neck or jaw
Stress and emotional imbalance
Development of certain medical conditions such as Ménière's disease.

“ In rare cases, tinnitus can be caused by sounds generated within the body, for example, by blood flow or muscle contractions ", add.

How to prevent these noises from occurring

Avoid high sounds, especially when regulating the volume in headphones
Start managing stress effectively
Have a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
Developing good sleep habits
Ask for personal guidance from health professionals

Ear ringing vs Tinnitus disorder

These health specialists still distinguish these two conditions.

If on the one hand, the ringing in the ear it is this perception of a noise, such as a ringing, ringing or squeaking, in the ears when no external sound is present, but it does not hinder the daily life of a person, on the other, the “humming disorder” reflects the symptom and suffering associated with this tinnitus, thus conditioning the daily life of those living with this condition.
