U20 - year - old German youth was rescued from Mühlbach mountain in Austria after allegedly being abandoned by his group of friends, reports 20 minutes.
According to the rescue team, the rescue took place on the night of October 31, and took 14 hours.
The victim was found in “extremely adverse conditions” and “completely exhausted”.
It all began after a group of friends decided to climb the Königsjodler massif on Saturday afternoon, despite all warnings of adverse weather, as well as warnings from other more experienced climbers.
At 2,600 metres [2,600 m] high, one of the youths indicated that he could no longer continue his journey and called emergency services. Your colleagues have decided to continue.
“ The rise itself was a real challenge for our team due to weather conditions,” said Wolfgang Haggenmüller, chief of operations and local delegation in Mühlbach, indicating that the victim was almost in a state of hypothermia when it was found.
During the rescue operation, it made a strong cold wave, with strong snowfalls, which made operations difficult. A helicopter was activated but failed to reach the scene.
The rescue and rescue team, in a communiqué shared in their official pages, said that if it were not for their work, the young German would not have returned home alive: “I wouldn’t survive another night there.”.
“ Once again, this incident demonstrates how overpowering one's own abilities, disrespect for warnings and poor planning of the excursion can quickly lead to a life-and-death situation. Mountaineering also implies knowing when to turn around. The mountains will not move”, can be read in the statement.
