A Apple recently released the iOS 27 version of its operating system, an update responsible for making available the long-awaited new generation of the Siri digital wizard equipped with Artificial Intelligence – called Siri AI.
Although iOS 27 was released in September worldwide, Siri AI is still not available in all territories where Apple is present. Among them are China and also the European Union, with Apple trying to articulate with the regulators of these markets a way to make this new version of the digital assistant available.
While Apple customers expect news journalist Mark Gurman, Bloomberg, has no good news to share and it is good that Apple has no plans to make Siri AI available in the European Union “soon”.
According to Gurman, Apple's plan is to delay Siri AI's arrival in European Union territories as a way to pressure regulators. Apple's idea is to continue launching products without one of the features that has been the focus of attention, with the company waiting for customers to complain and press regulators to let obstacles lie.
Given this strategy, it is not known when Apple should launch Siri AI in the European Union. Gurman believes that Apple should follow the same launch schedule as Apple Intelligence, which was launched in the US in October 2024 and did not reach European countries until March 2025.
Bloomberg's journalist believes this will be “the best possible scenario”, but note that at worst Siri AI may take “considerably more” arriving in european countries.
Apple spends up to 9 million a year in the European Union
A report published by the Financial Times reveals that since June 2024 Apple has met 257 times with European Union legislators. The report also reveals the amounts invested by Apple in lobbying.
The information used by the publication is taken from the European Parliament and the European Commission's databases as part of transparency initiatives. According to these data, Apple spends EUR 9 million a year lobbying in the European Union, with the Goal spending more than EUR 10 million.
In order to have a comparison term, these figures are higher than companies such as Total, Volkswagen and Airbus spend (combined) on lobbying activities.
“ American companies have used their influence in Brussels to oppose the block’s digital rules, on which US President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened to impose tariffs in response to Europe’s demand for ‘technological sovereignty’ to reduce its dependence on US technology.”You can read it in the Financial Times.
In response to this report, Apple stated only that “interacts with policy makers on important topics for your customers and your business”.
