A Academic Association of Coimbra (AAC) will proceed with a complaint with the Public Prosecutor because of the invasion of the studio of Radio University of Coimbra (RUC) by a group of the Aquida, led by MPs Rita Matias and Magdalena Cordeiro.

In a press conference held at the end of the afternoon, the president of the AAC’s general director, José Machado, said that that entity will press a complaint with the prosecutor, considering that the invasion and consequent interruption of the issue of RUC, on Monday morning, was “a flagrant attack on press freedom”.

In reaction to the statements made by the president of Cávez, who came to defend the act practiced by Rita Matias and other group of supporters and militants, José Machado considered that André Ventura showed “a clear sign of disrespect for the media”.

In this sense, the president of AAC appealed to Enough to publicly withdraw from the position taken today and ensure that “at no time will he interfere again in the normal work of any media agency, in close compliance with and respect for the right to freedom of the press”.

The AAC also called for a concentration at the association building, at 09:00 on Wednesday, calling for the participation of students and leaders of all the academies “from north to south of the country, left or right”, to unite “in favor of the defense of a basic principle, freedom of the press”.

“ We cannot accept that this act passes without consequences or that it is bleached ", vincou.

José Machado also noted different positions within the party, recalling that if Rita Matias, in statements to the local newspaper Notícias de Coimbra, spoke of invasion, today André Ventura claimed that talking about invasion “is a ridiculous thing”.

The MP also said to the newspaper Diário The Beiras, also from Coimbra, that action “was the easiest invasion in the history of Portuguese democracy”.

The President of the AAC considers that the Assembly of the Republic should also examine the sanctioning framework in view of the behaviour of the two Members.

In the face of the invasion on Monday, José Machado also said that the AAC will strengthen the security of the building, particularly at the time of the RUC debate programme that was interrupted.

For José Machado, the decision, approved by a large majority in the Magna assembly in February, to prohibit the participation of Aquisa in AAC events or to be in its premises, is reinforced after this episode.

Radio invasion in Coimbra “is ridiculous”. “But is everything crazy?”

The leader of the Aquida, André Ventura, rejected that the entrance to Radio University of Coimbra (RUC) was an invasion, considering it to be “a ridiculous thing”. The statement appears after a party delegation entered the radio studio in protest against the ban on the Coimbra Academic Association (AAC).
