Does it pay to buy all fresh fruits, vegetables and proteins? It all depends on their dynamics in the kitchen, but according to some chefs of cooking to the blog Martha Stewart, it is not always justified to buy fresh food if you have the option to buy them frozen.
In addition to lasting longer and helping avoid food waste, these gastronomic experts explain that some frozen foods help improve the weekly organization of meals.
In addition, you will also have much less work in preparing food, do not mess up the kitchen so much, you will save time and money.
“ In some cases, frozen ingredients are even better than their fresh equivalents,” they add.
Here are the foods you can start to favor frozen rather than fresh versions:
Peas
Nathan Lyon, chef, cookbook author and show host Lyon in the Kitchen at Discovery Health justifies the same source as fresh peas have a short life span, lasting only about a week in the fridge. On the other hand, frozen peas last six to eight months in the freezer.
Edamame
Finding fresh pods in the supermarket can even be an impossible mission. “In this case, choose frozen edamame, which is easier to find,” says Jamie Blatt, chef-instructor of culinary arts at the Institute of Culinary Education. In addition, the frozen version also has a longer service life than the fresh version.
Spinach
Whether for soup or a vegetable sauté, spinach tends to wither easily and spoil itself with the moisture in the fridge, so it makes up for buying the frozen version.
“The frozen spinach can last up to a year in the freezer, while the fresh spinach is delicate and prone to spoil itself in a few days,” explains Nathan Lyon.
Seafood
If you have a lotta near home or a fish shop of your trust, buying frozen shellfish can almost seem offensive. However, it is not always so practical to go shopping every day and so the frozen versions, in addition to the longer service life, “will always be equally tasty, if not even better”, finish.
