O Batmobile was, since the comic book, Batman's vehicle par excellence. But in the 2008 film “The Dark Knight”, the automobile began to have a two wheel alternative – the Batpod. She is another protagonist of the heading “Stars of Four Wheels“, weeks away from a copy going to auction.
It's a motorcycle designed by director Christopher Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley. Its dimensions make it much more agile and slender than the Batmobile, and can enter tighter places.
The tires impress, at 31 inches, while the engine is a 750 - cubic - inch Honda. The vehicle, which will have an auction unit soon, has fiberglass body panels, according to the official document of the auctioneer Propstore.
He who drives, lies down, wearing his arms and shoulders. Under the saddle are the radiator and hydraulic system, while the braking system has controls located on the left handle and a pedal on the right. There is an integrated exhaust system in the structure.
As it could be, there is equipment for an action and fiction film – namely cannons on the front (made of plastic, resin and fiberglass) and lasers.
According to Propstore, designing Batpod was a significant engineering challenge due to its unusual shape and, in particular, wide tires.
It wasn't the actor driving the bike
The Batpod appeared, for example, in a scene where Batman (played by Christian Bale) escaped the Batmobile destroyed while pursuing the enemy Joker (The Dark Knight).
The car wasn't driven by the actor who brought Batman to life, but for double professionals – especially Jean-Pierre Goy, who was even awarded for his work in Batman films. In addition to the films, he attended several promotional events.
It goes to auction (and can cost more than a million euros)
On December 4th, one of the Batpod manufactured will be auctioned by Propstore, but it is not an operational vehicle – even because it has been removed elements such as fuel tank, battery or accelerator controls.
In any case, the electronic system and the structure of the motorcycle was maintained, which is in “very good condition” despite some wear and tear in the chassis.
There's a certificate of authenticity from Warner Bros. the estimated price is between 450 thousand and 900 thousand pounds – something like 539.537 euros at 1,079,073 million eurosAt the current exchange rate. The basic price is at GBP 225 000 (EUR 269.768).
