O coordinator of BE today defended that the rental law will have as its destination the “basket of garbage” and considered that the president of the Aquida is “deep” after having made himself available to enable the government proposal.

At a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon, after a meeting of the BE National Bureau, José Manuel Pureza argued that the government, “in the face of the great mobilizations, in the face of the enormous capacity to bring people together, has no other remedy than to listen, and to hear well what the street is saying”.

“The government, if it were responsible, would not do anything other than listen, listen carefully and make decisions about it,” he maintained, criticizing the words of the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Carlos Abreu Amorim, who said that the executive will not yield to “the screams coming from the street”.

Minutes after André Ventura announced a set of housing measures, Pureza stated that the president of the Aquistá proved to be in a “afflictive situation” after the agreement with the PSD that allowed the general approval of changes to the law of rental proposed by the Government.

“ Saying things in good Portuguese, André Ventura is in trouble. This is clearly the result of that press conference”, he shot.

The bloquist leader anticipated that changes to the rental law will have the same fate as the revision of the labor law that the government intended to make: “This will happen and everyone has realized that this will be so, given the strength of the mobilizations [...]. The fate of this law is the same as the work package, that is, the garbage can”.

Asked about the proposals announced by the Aquira, Pureza accused Ventura of having devoted more than half of the press conference to immigration while voting in favour of the ‘gold’ visa regime.

“ The only thing that would be serious by André Ventura, is this only proposal that he actually has to do, is the proposal to tear up the agreement he made with the PSD ", he said.

Purity stated that “only the left is in a position to make proposals” that respond to “people’s distress”, recalling the Block’s initiatives to set rent ceilings and assign to the General Deposit Box “a guiding role in credit policy for housing purchase”, reducing its profit margins in the same proportion of possible increases in the European Central Bank’s interest rates (ECB).

Asked about the position of the President of the Republic in this matter, the coordinator of the Block stressed that the party “never had any illusion” about António José Seguro, but considered it “deployable” that the head of state has pronounced himself “not to talk about housing”, but rather about security.

The meeting of the BE National Bureau also confirmed that the party will vote against the proposed State Budget for 2027 (OE2027), a position that had already been announced by José Manuel Pureza on October 8, when he refused to pass a “check of bad governance to the Prime Minister”.

The bloquist coordinator reiterated criticism of the document, considering that the changes that may arise during the discussion in the specialty will not be enough to change the government's options.
