O secretary-General of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, today warned the party for “hard moments” and asked for “a tempered character” for the “many obstacles” that will be put ahead of the socialists, noting that “there are no mountains without valleys”.
In the final line of his opening speech of the National Commission of the PS, which takes place in Lisbon to examine the proposal of the State Budget for 2027 (OE2027) and the socialist position, José Luís Carneiro left warnings to the party about the coming times, recalling that he has “a very long political and professional experience”.
“ We're gonna have a rough time ahead of us. We'll go up and down the polls, sometimes we'll go up more, sometimes they'll go up more. There is something that is fundamental, is to have a tempered character ", asked.
For the leader of the PS, this character is necessary to face all challenges.
“ We're going to have a lot of obstacles, some of them have already put us up. You have been attentive, I imagine, in the way our message passes to the public space, or how it does not pass, or how you pass the parts that least contribute to affirm our project ", warned.
Carneiro also asked the socialists to believe in the “fundamental strategic reason of the option” that he proposed to the National Commission of the PS, that is, the possibility, through abstention, of the OE2027.
“ But more important is not the one that I propose to you today, it is the demand that I make you so that with the strength and energy of each and every one of you we are able to cross this canyon”, he asked, helping himself from here on from an image to try to remember the last times of the party.
According to the leader, the PS has been “in a valley, in a canyon, on a plateau”.
“ Now we can go back to a valley, but down there will be a mountain and we'll go over that mountain. And don’t forget: there are no mountains without valleys, no valleys without mountains, in life and in politics”, he observed.
