“ I saw a statement that should raise concern, that is, why did the minister come to talk about the need to be saved in the use of fuels? Was it just for environmental reasons or are there fears about supply? Let us wait for what the government has to say on the subject.”, replied José Luís Carneiro to journalists in the margins of a meeting with tourism, commerce and services entities in Lisbon.

The PS leader assumed that the statement on the eve of Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho – who warned that fuel consumption has risen “high values” and defended that it is necessary to save – surprised him and promised to follow the matter.

“I was especially touched by the Minister’s words on scarcity and, therefore, it is necessary to check whether there is a problem or some information the government has regarding the possible shortage of fuel reserves,” she said.

Carneiro said he did not understand why the Environment and Energy Minister said “if there is no shortage of supplies or reserves”.

“ Was it just for environmental reasons? Well, we need to know why it was only for environmental reasons, we agree with the need for the country to accelerate investment in its electrification, in the decarbonization of the economy, in the valuation of the circular economy, in the reduction of its energy dependence”, he emphasized.

The Secretary-General of the PS considered that this “is a national priority”, which is why he does not understand why the executive does not decide “on projects that were planned to be launched for competition, in particular for the production of more renewable energy”.

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, warned Monday that fuel consumption has risen “high values” and defended that it is necessary to save, considering that support should be channeled to those who need it.

“The consumption of both diesel and gasoline, as well as jet [fuel], compared to the homologous months of last year, has risen and has risen from 4 to 6%,” said Maria da Graça Carvalho, stressing that the indicator is not bad, but surprising.

The Minister of the Environment spoke in Soure, in the district of Coimbra, where she stressed that there was always a saving of fuel consumption compared to other crises similar to what is currently being experienced, drawing attention to consumers who sometimes had crises in the past and other countries that even imposed fuel saving measures.
