O Independent General Council (CGI) today announced the choice of Nicolau Santos and Hugo Figueiredo for a new mandate in the administration of RTP for the 2027-2029 term, now lacking the choice of the financial vowel.
Meeting today to assess and evaluate the applications “the president and non-financial vowel of RTP, in accordance with the procedure provided for in the call for expression of interest released on July 10, 2026”, the CGI “deliberated to choose the candidacy composed, respectively, by Nicolau Fernando Ramos dos Santos and Hugo Graça Figueiredo”.
The body overseeing RTP’s administration will “designate the candidates referred to in Article 11(d) of the Statute of RTP”.
The procedure for choosing the financial vowel “will take place in accordance with the above-mentioned call for expressions of interest”, says the CGI.
With this choice, the current chairman of the Board of Directors of RTP, Nicolau Santos, is renewed to a third term.
Nicolau Santos took over the presidency of RTP in 2021 and was renewed in 2024 for a new term, which ended this year.
Hugo Figueiredo is on his fourth term.
The CGI has received four candidates for the President and a non-financial vowel and seven candidates for the procedure of choosing the vowel responsible for the financial area of RTP.
This morning, RTP’s administration considered “serious and unacceptable” that IGF’s final report on the allocation of subsidies on the television station was news in the media without the company having received any communication on the subject.
The General Inspection of Finance concluded that grants were paid to RTP without legal support, between 2018 and 2024, amounting to EUR 12.5 million, “susceptible of setting up financial infringements”, to be determined by the Court of Auditors (TdC), according to the report that Lusa had access to.
The IGF audit follows from the proposal of the PSD parliamentary group, voted in October 2024 on the parliamentary committee of Budget, Finance and Public Administration.
The period under review – 2018 and 2024 – covers eight administrators: Gonçalo Reis, Nuno Artur Silva, Cristina Vaz Tomé, Hugo Figueiredo, Ana Dias da Fonseca, Luísa Ribeiro, Sonia Alegre and Nicolau Santos.
