ANDin the second quarter of the year chinese Leapmotor first surpassed two large Japanese manufacturers in car sales.
According to Nikkei Asia, between April and June Leapmotor sold 240 thousand cars, a growth of 84 percent that allowed it stay in front of Subaru (230,000 cars) and Mitsubishi (170,000). Never had the Chinese manufacturer dedicated to electric and electrified cars finished a quarter ahead of Japan’s rivals since its foundation in 2015. Plus, this is the first time a Chinese car manufacturer founded after 2010 has surpassed Japanese in a semester when it comes to passenger cars.
In favor of Leapmotor, is the rapid growth in demand for electric cars in recent months – with the rising fuel prices since the conflict in Iran broke out at the end of February. There was also a slowdown in the search for cars.
The best-selling brand was Toyota Japanese (2.71 million units), which despite breaking four percent still stood in front of the Volkswagen (2.07 million, minus nine percent).
Between January and August, Leapmotor delivered more than 560,000 vehicles worldwide, having their target set in million units by the end of the year. To this end, it has introduced new proposals on international markets, with Europe having a considerable focus through partnership with Stellantis – which leads it to produce in Spain.
