A confirming this estimate, prices in Spain in August recorded the highest rate since 2023, taking into account the 2.7% recorded in the same month last year.
In monthly terms, the increase was seven tenths.
Preliminary data point to an acceleration of the inflation rate, driven by the rise in energy prices, due both to the persistence of the conflict in the Middle East and to the start of the withdrawal of fiscal support measures.
As for the underlying inflation (without energy and fresh food, traditionally the most volatile in the shopping basket) was 2.9%, less a tenth than in July.
The Spanish Ministry of Economics ensured that the Government “follows the impact of the conflict in Iran on the Spanish economy minute by minute” together with the social partners and affected sectors, and recalled that the support measures provided in the response plan remain in force.
