O the scheme was approved under the Temporary Framework on State Aid for Crisis in the Middle East, which led to an increase in fuel and fertiliser prices.
Lisbon had already notified the Community executive of a scheme of EUR 30 million to support companies active in the primary production of agricultural products, fisheries and aquaculture.
The aid will take the form of direct grants and provides for a maximum of EUR 50 000 per company.
For the agricultural sector, the aid for fertilisers is based on a fixed amount depending on the number of hectares of agricultural area and the company's animals.
The aid for fuel costs consists of EUR 0,10 per litre of agricultural or marine gas oil consumed from 1 April to 30 June 2026.
In its analysis of the notification, the Commission concluded that the scheme complies with the conditions laid down, being granted on the basis of a scheme with a clear estimated budget and being provided to temporarily support the development of active enterprises in the primary production of agricultural products, fisheries and aquaculture.
The Commission concluded that the scheme is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to facilitate the development of an economic activity and does not adversely affect trading conditions to the extent contrary to the common interest.
The State aid scheme, which will be in force until 31 December 2026, aims to mitigate the impact of the increase in agricultural fuel and fertiliser prices.
