O Pope Leo XIV prayed this Sunday, October 18, the Angelus prayer in St Peter's Square in the Vatican, and took the opportunity to thank the faithful for their prayers. The Supreme Pontiff, remember, was discharged yesterday, Saturday, after having undergone surgery to a lung on Tuesday.
“I would like to thank all those who have prayed for me in these last days. I really felt your support. Thank you!“, said, thanking also “doctors, nurses and all medical personnel”.
Leo XIV stressed that “this experience” made him “feel in a very special way close to those who face the disease and a condition of illness”.
“ After this delicate phase, as you know, I will gradually resume my activities, always with the help of God and your prayers. Thanks again”, stressed.

Remember that Leo XIV was operated on for lung cancer at Gemelli Hospital in Rome last Tuesday, October 13th.
On leaving the hospital, the Supreme Pontiff greeted several patients and then was received from the outside by numerous faithful, as well as by the international press.
On Saturday, Leo XIV came out smiling greeting those who were waiting for him. At one point, he even spoke to a family, who offered him a gift. The young woman who spoke to the Pope appears, as some media have noted, to have also been hospitalized.
“Dapa Leão was an ideal patient”
Doctor Stefano Margaritora, who operated on Pope Leo XIV’s lung last Tuesday, said that the leader of the Catholic Church was the “ideal patient”, since he “did not cause the smallest problem to the team that cared for him”.
“The Lion Pope was an ideal patient. I'm not saying that to compliment you. In fact, it did not cause the smallest problem to the team that cared for him and would not have done it even if he called himself Mario Bianchi”, he said, in statements to Vatican News at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, after the Pope had been released.
