A minister of the Environment assured today that everything will do to resolve the embargo announced by the mayor of Albufeira on the works of desalinizer, rejecting “political games” that delay solutions for the Algarve.
“ I do not give up solving the problems of the Algarve and do not count on me for games and political games that delay the resolution of the problems of the Algarve ", said Maria da Graça Carvalho, in a reaction to the announcement of the mayor.
In statements to journalists in Faro, Maria da Graça Carvalho said she had the opportunity to see the video released by the mayor of Albufeira, Rui Cristina, in which she announced the embargo of the works for alleged violation of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM).
The Minister welcomed the fact that the mayor stated that he is not against the desalinationist, but stressed that he continues to examine the outlines of the decision.
“The embargo is an embargo on the ground. I still have to analyze well, because I knew when I was already on my way [to Faro]”, he explained.
The ruler stated that in a first analysis of the lawyers who accompanied her in the process, the embargo focuses on the ground and not directly on the works, so “works, for the most part, can continue.”.
Maria da Graça Carvalho said that the government will examine the situation and ensured that it has mechanisms to react if necessary.
“ Even if it were an embargo, we had a way of reacting, as we have always reacted in all the embargoes and precautionary measures that have imposed on us and that we have always won and resolved”, he said.
The minister's reaction arises on the day that Rui Cristina announced, through social networks, the embargo of the works of the desalinizer of Albufeira, demanding changes to the project, namely the extension of the emissary and the discharge of brine the deeper and further from the coast.
