O vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance, is being criticized for praising Vladimir Putin in an interview that aired in 2025, but is now going viral again.

In an interview with Fox News last year, JD Vance stated that the American press had “a particular image” of the President of Russia and described it as “very thoughtful and careful.”.

“ It's interesting. He's more discreet than you'd expect. The US press has a very particular image of him,” he said.

Although he never met him personally, Vance pointed out that he had already telephoned Putin several times.

“ Fundamentally, I think he is a person who watches over Russia’s interests,” he pointed out, adding that he believes Putin respects Trump because “the president watches over the interests of the American people.”.

And he added: “Although they disagree on certain issues, and although the president was very critical of Putin, he is willing to work with anyone if he considers that this will contribute to achieving an important goal for the United States.”.

The compliments to Vladimir Putin have now reappeared with the interview going viral on social media, at a time when apparently Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are getting closer.

“ I never met Hitler, Mussolini, Castro or Putin, but I know that they are all the worst for the terrible actions against humanity”, wrote a netizen.

“It is calm, decided and measured because it is an ex-KGB,” commented another social network user X.

Remember that Donald Trump signed on Friday a presidential decree suspending a new comprehensive package of sanctions aimed at the Russian economy, stating to Congress that suspension is in the national interest.

The legislation, promulgated last month and named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham, aimed to limit more quickly the flow of financial resources that fuel the war against Ukraine.

The measure appears a week after Trump said, surprisingly, that the United States agreed to buy gas oil from Russia to try to lower global energy prices, although this could harm Ukraine in the war with Moscow.

Donald Trump has also claimed not to be a “big fan” of Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing the Ukrainian president of having “destroyed” the country. The American leader also argued that Zelensky should stay out of the peace negotiations with Vladimir Putin because it is “more difficult to negotiate” than the Russian president.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine took place on 24 February 2022, having completed four years of conflict despite several attempts at a ceasefire agreement.

Zelensky fears Trump will lift more sanctions on Russia: “It will continue”

Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, warned that the temporary lifting of US sanctions against Russia may be the first step towards measures more favourable to Vladimir Putin.
