The Danish average international Christian Eriksen terminated his contract with Wolfsburg, almost four months after he collapsed on the turf for the second time in his career, today announced the club of the second German football league.

“ A christian Eriksen passing through the Wolfsburg has come to an end. The player and the club agreed to terminate the contract, which lasted until 30 June 2027′′, the ‘wolves’ reported in a statement.
He was an internationalist for the Danish national team (151), at the service of which he scored 46 goals, the average, 34 years old, did not compete since June 7, when he fell inanimate in the second part of the private duel against Ukraine (2-1), in Odense.
“ Right now, it's important to be close to my family in Denmark. I'm glad we found a solution together. My period in Wolfsburg was marked by many ups and downs. I know that the club is now in good hands, while seeking to return to the Bundesliga, and I am convinced that a successful future awaits it,” said the player, who is doing an individual rehabilitation program in Denmark.
Christian Eriksen held onto his chest and was unconscious for a moment, having collapsed and received medical assistance on the lawn, where teammates and opponents formed a circle to protect him from the cameras.
The center camper left the field on his own foot and was taken to a hospital, with referee Sigurd Kringstad deciding to finish the match, after meeting with the Denmark and Ukraine teams, who were not at World Cup2026.
“I would like to sincerely thank all those who supported me during my time at the club and in Wolfsburg. It was a great pleasure to play for you and I will cherish the memories of this period”, he added.
The average had already suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and passed out in service of Denmark in June 2021, in a defeat before Finland (1-0) in Copenhagen for the inaugural day of Euro2020 Group B.
Eriksen resumed his career eight months later with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), a small device placed in the chest that continuously monitors the heartbeat and applies an automatic electric shock if he detects a severe arrhythmia.
“ For us, it was clear that the decision about Christian's future had to be his. We wanted to give him that freedom in this particular situation and now we have agreed to his request for termination,” Wolfsburg sports director Dieter Hecking explained, thanking the footballer for his contribution.
Three goals and 10 assists in 34 games summarized the passage of the middle for the ‘wolves’, which ended a cycle of 29 consecutive seasons in the Bundesliga in 2025/26, as they descended to the second German division with a play-off defeat before Paderborn (2-1 in the aggregate of both hands).
“ He has lived and conquered much during his extraordinary career. This makes it even more remarkable how accessible and humble we know him in Wolfsburg. Despite the short time, he left a lasting impression on his colleagues, on our technical team and on the supporters,” Hecking said.
Eriksen had arrived in Wolfsburg in September 2025 as a free player, after representing the Dutch of Ajax (2010-2013), the English of Tottenham (2013-2020), Brentford (2022) and Manchester United (2022-2025) and the Italians of Inter Mião (2020-2021), in a career with eight trophies and attendances in the final stages of three Europeans and three Worlds.
The average is not in Denmark's summons for the first four of six days of the A4 Group of the 2026/27 edition of the League of Nations, which include the reception to Portugal, holder of the trophy, on October 1, in Copenhagen.
