Spain has extended control at ports and airports of passengers from Italy, which took the same step after the entry of more than 70,000 people in Ceuta in late July.

ANDthis is the fourth time that Spain has extended these controls, always in response to the same decision by Italy.
The extension of controls at ports and airports on passengers arriving in Spain from Italy was published today in the Official Bulletin of the State.
The right-wing and far-right Italian executive, led by Giorgia Meloni, decided on 1 August to suspend the Schengen Agreement on the free movement of persons with Spain following the migration crisis in Ceuta, which took place at the end of July, and has successively prolonged the measure.
In response, the left-wing Spanish Government, led by the Socialist Party (PSOE), has applied the same measure in relation to Italy.
Madrid and the Italian opposition parties criticised the suspension by the Government of Meloni of the Schengen agreements with Spain, classifying it as propaganda, since the entry into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa does not automatically give access to the Schengen area, and Italy does not border Spain.
