AuS immigration officials today announced the arrest of two European citizens, one Italian and one Finnish, on suspicion of illegal vote, on the day of the mid-term elections to Congress.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) announced on social network X the arrest of Italian citizen Andrea Morzetta in the state of New Jersey for allegedly participating in federal elections without US nationality.
According to the ICE, Morzetta will have voted illegally in four federal elections, although, as a foreign citizen, it does not meet the legal requirements to participate in these ballots.
Authorities also announced the arrest of a Finnish citizen in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on similar suspicions.
The arrests were announced at a time when millions of Americans are voting in the mid-term elections, which will determine the composition of Congress during the last two years of Donald Trump's presidential term.
The announcement also appears after the Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, today warned that the authorities will identify and prosecute all persons who illegally participate in the election process.
The elections renew the 435 seats of the House of Representatives and about one-third of the Senate, with the control of the two chambers currently dominated by the Republicans in dispute.
