Ua 12-year-old girl died and three people were injured on Saturday following a shooting between two men, allegedly by a parking spot in a Baltimore park in the U.S. state of Maryland.
“What we do know is that there was some sort of discussion between two cowards and, of course, both opened fire against each other. In the crossfire, a 12-year-old girl who was probably there watching a football game was shot and killed,” police commissioner Richard Worley, quoted by NBC News, detailed.
The person responsible pointed out that the two suspects are being sought and that two different types of cartridges were found at the crime scene near Leon Day Park, where a youth league football game was taking place.
Authorities advanced that a 25 - year - old girl with the child was also injured, as were two 23 - and 28 - year - olds. However, they suffered injuries that did not put their lives at risk.
“The dispute occurred most likely because of a stupid parking place,” said the commissioner.
The mayor of Baltimore, Brandon M. Scott, expressed disgust at the situation and also compared the shooters to cowards.
“ Two men, or so-called men, have entered into an argument and now this child is no longer among us”, lamented.
Coach Mark Brown, of the youth football league Charm City Buccaneers, realized that the shots occurred in the middle of the game.
“ It was some people outside the group who caused this situation”, reported to WBAL-TV, NBC affiliate.
The manager indicated that the youth league has been around for 29 years and nothing of the kind had ever happened before.
“This happened because of a parking space. It was avoidable,” he said.
