O deputy Secretary-General and former Minister of the PSD Jorge Moreira da Silva again today condemns the police intervention on protesters for the right to housing, considering it unjustifiable.
In a message on social network X, Jorge Moreira da Silva repeated the position he had taken on October 25 in relation to previous police charges on demonstrators.
“I repeat, unfortunately,” wrote the former PSD leader, referring to his message of October 25: “This police charge against peaceful protests by young people in Lisbon and Porto, in addition to being unjustified in the light of tolerance, empathy and human rights, is a tremendous mistake by decision-makers. This is what populism, radicalization and unbelief in politics are nourished by”.
Early today, PSP's intervention team advanced, almost simultaneously, at 4:30 p.m., with batonadas, on protesters concentrated in the camps for housing in Lisbon and Porto to demobilize, removed tents and made arrests.
Jorge Moreira da Silva, current Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS), fought the leadership of the PSD with the current Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, in 2022, and has not made interventions on national political today.
