O FC Porto returned, at the end of the morning of Monday, to work, at the Centro de Treinos e Formation Desportiva Jorge Costa, in Olival, after having enjoyed two days off, following the triumph won, last Friday, on the Sports of the Coruña, a meeting of particular character disputed at the Stadium of Riazor, by 1-3.
The national champions in title began to prepare the game of the eighth day of the I Liga, before the Marítimo (which has initial whistle scheduled for 6 p.m., Continental Portugal time, next Saturday, in the Stadium of Barreiros, Funchal), in a session in which, in face of the various casualties, Francesco Farioli chose to perform together with team B.
In the lot of absentees are João Costa, Nehuén Pérez, Martim Fernandes, Zaidu Sanusi, Seko Fofana, Vasco Sousa, Gabri Veiga and André Miranda, whose names continue to appear in the clinical bulletin, having limited themselves to working on “conditional training scheme”, according to the club itself, through official platforms.
From the outside was also the players who are at the service of selections, who have only orders to perform in the Invicta City on Thursday. They are Diogo Costa (Portugal), João Afonso (sub-21 of Portugal), Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior (Poland), Victor Froholdt (Denmark), Pablo Rosario (Dominican Republic), Inbeom Hwang (South Korea), Santiago Giménez (Mexico) and Dominik Prpic (sub-21 of Croatia).
On the side of team B, João Brandão saw himself as ‘orphan’, not only of his internationals, but also of Martim Chelmik, Emanuel Benjamín, Mame Niang (who underwent treatment), Domingos Muxito (who injured himself in the service of Angola), André Oliveira (who divided himself between the gym and the treatment room) and Brayan Caicedo (who trained conditionally).
After all, what injuries afflict the Farioli squad?
João Costa, remember, he was operated on a meniscal lesion in his left knee about a month ago, while Nehuén Pérez it is due to a muscle injury to the right thigh, suffered shortly after having resumed the competition, following the total rupture of the right Achilles tendon contracted in september 2025.
Martim Fernandes continues to recover from muscle problems in the left thigh, Zaidu Sanusi of a muscle injury to the right leg adductor, Seko Fofana a rupture in the left leg adductor, André Miranda a muscle injury to the right thigh and Gabri Veiga of mere physical discomfort.
The most worrying issue is the protagonist Vasco Sousa, who no longer plays since 14 December 2025, when he contracted a severe fracture in the right leg murion, during the heavy defeat suffered by Moreirense (club in which he acted as a loan) in the Stadium Commander Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, against Benfica, by 0-4.
Everyone is in doubt for the traditionally complicated trip to Madeira, where FC Porto will seek to continue a start of the 2026/27 sports season that has proved to be ‘immaculate’, in order to keep the distance for the most direct rivals in the race for the conquest of the national champion title.
