A Câmara de Felgueiras predicts that within 10 years, the High Industrial Zone of Barrancas, created from the roots in 2018, will employ about 10,000 people, said the president today.
“ We want new jobs and, above all, we want to ensure that these jobs are better paid, better qualified and that we can have young people here who leave their universities today and often do not find a place to work soon, but you can find them here,” said the mayor.
Nuno Fonseca spoke to journalists on the margins of the inauguration of a company with engines for blinds, SOMMY, a French multinational that plans to create 700 jobs in Felgueiras in five to six years.
Asked about the importance of this project for the county, Nuno Fonseca spoke about the expansion of the Industrial Zone Alto das Barrancas.
“ We may be talking about 10,000 jobs in their entirety. So this industrial zone is actually going to become one of the largest industrial areas in the North. It is a cause of great satisfaction for us. I would say that within 10 years we must have this industrial area with these jobs,” said the mayor.
The Industrial Zone Alto das Barrancas, located in Revinhade, in the municipality of Felgueiras, district of Porto, is located next to the node of the highway A11 and has currently installed three factories, including two multinationals, SOMFY and Coloplast, in the medical devices sector.
Nuno Fonseca recalled today that the creation of this industrial zone began to be “rooted” in 2018, with the City Council already investing about 20 million euros on site.
“ This industrial zone began to be worked by us in 2018, completely of root. There was nothing. It was just a lot with over 200 owners”, he said.
Asked about whether to welcome the number of people that the municipality estimates is already thought of a mobility plan, Nuno Fonseca assured that yes and that it will always be worked with the neighboring municipalities and accompanied by housing policies”.
