O spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won today for the first time a Masters 1000 tournament, winning in three sets compatriot Rafael Jodar in the Shanghai final, after having eliminated in the ‘half’ German Alexander Zverev.

After beating Zverev, number two in the world and first serial head in the Chinese tournament, Fokina, 26th ranked in the ranking, again surprised a player best placed in the ATP hierarchy, in which Jodar ranks 13th, imposing himself for 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4, in two hours and 28 minutes of confrontation in the court on hard floor.

At the age of 27, the Spanish tennis player won the most important trophy of his career, in the second presence in the final of a Masters 1,000, after failing to win the title at Monte Carlo in 2022, before the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Fokina is living a memorable year, since she won in 2026 the only three individual titles on the main circuit: in June she had won the Majorca tournament in Spain, and in September Chengdu, in China, where she today rose to the highest point of her career.

Jodar, 20 years old, also sought to win a Masters 1,000 for the first time, in the first presence in the final of a tournament of this category (only surpassed by the four Grand Slam), but had to lean before the countryman and it also cost him the world's top 10 debut in the next ranking update.
