O Gil Vicente assured today with difficulty the continuity in the Portuguese Cup of football, requiring the extension to defeat the Union of Santarém, League 3, by 3-2, in the third round.
The eighth ranked I Liga suffered a lot in Santarém, where he was losing for two occasions.
The house team showed from an early age willingness to surprise, being able to neutralize the gillists with delivery, organization, intense pressure and irreverence in the exits for the attack.
Rodrigo Silva, Diarra and Hélder They almost opened the marker for the Escalabitans in the first part, while Martín Fernández and Santi García wasted Gil's best occasions in that period.
The good display of the Union of Santarém was rewarded on the return of the locker rooms: fast escape from Costinha right, which crossed to Rafael Camacho, former Liverpool and Sporting player, do the 1-0 head.
Gil's response was quick, with Agustín Moreira taking advantage of a lost ball to tie at 53 minutes.
The tie lasted little because, two minutes later, Rodrigo Silva took the ball on the left side, went out there, dribbled a defense, entered the area and shot to the 2-1.
The formation of Barcelos launched several usual holders for the field, but only improved with the physical breakdown of the Union of Santarém.
The tie came up in a caricacy bid at 89 minutes: Santi García grazed and the ball took a ‘exotic’ trajectory, leading the goalkeeper João Oliveira to believe he was going next door.
The 2-2 led the decision to extend, with Gil Vicente insisting and moving ahead of the marker at 109 minutes, in a first shot of Zé Carlos to the entrance of the area.
In advantage, Barcelos' team still had to apply and only two good defenses of the goalkeeper Samuel Portugal denied another draw to the Santarém Union.
