ANDm communiqué, stressing that these are the first of the tour, it was revealed that the creator of “O Hostel da Mariquinhas” acts on 12 March next year, in Bordeaux, France, and the next day, in Bourgoin-Jallieu, also in France.
On 14 March, Gisela João crosses the border and acts in Geneva, Switzerland, heading to the Netherlands, where on 17 March she goes to the stage of TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, and the next day she sings in Dudelange, Luxembourg.
Born in Barcelos, Gisela João made herself known to the general public in 2013 with the homonymous album in which he recorded, among others, a new version of “I’m going to Give Drink to Pain”, entitled “Hostel da Mariquinhas”, as well as the fado “Sou Tua”, from the repertoire of Fernanda Maria, among other creations of fadistas such as Flora Silva and Anita Guerreiro, and still “Bailarico Saloio”, do Cancioneiro Popular.
Gisela João won some children's contests in the Barcelos region, where he began singing at the Lusitana Winery, already in adolescence. In 2000, he moved to Porto to study fashion design, but music got the better of him.
Later, in Lisbon, he conquered the stages of fado, culminating in the edition of his first album in his own name. Before, he recorded with the band Atlanthihda, in which the fado combined with other traditional root influences.
He edited the albums “Nua” (2016) and “AuRora” (2021). At the beginning of last year he edited “Inquiet”, in which he recreated some songs by José Afonso and that Lusa said he recorded it “in defense of freedom”.
Just this week, Gisela João works at Casa das Artes, in Miranda do Corvo, in Coimbra district, on Friday, and at Theatro Circo, in Braga, a day later.
