O prime Minister today assured that the government is addressing “the problems that have been rampant” in the area of internal administration, including with regard to SIRESP.
In statements to journalists on arrival at the European Council summit in Brussels, Luís Montenegro was asked how he is seeing the situation in the Ministry of Internal Administration, including the Integrated System of Emergency and Security Networks of Portugal (SIRESP).
“ We are solving the problems that have grown in the area of internal administration. All of them, and that is also a problem that we are dealing with,” said the Prime Minister.
At the beginning of the week Ricardo Carrilho, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI), was fired by the minister, Luís Neves. At the time he considered the dismissal “an act of retaliation” and accused Luís Neves of “illegal pressures” and “an asphyxiating political interference”.
The minister justified the dismissal, in particular, with the “reorganization of the General Secretariat”.
Ricardo Carrilho said that what led to the situation was that he proposed the extinction of SIRESP SA, a public company that manages the state’s emergency network and that it became a “public money drain”. He said that in July he presented a restructuring proposal.
