Without Issa Doumbia and Silas Andersen, Rui Borges takes advantage of the pause for international commitments to shape Pedro Lima, which is presented as a name to take into account, given the competitive density of the Sporting calendar.

Adipped by Sporting to AVS, in the past summer transfer market, for a sum of EUR 4 million, Pedro Lima is not getting the easiest start in the new sports season of 2026/27, but the scenario may be changing.
This is because the average has taken advantage of the pause for international commitments to work towards moving from a residual option (it was launched only at 88 minutes of the victory over Alverca, by 3-1, and at 86 minutes of the two-ball draw with Arouca) to a solution of continuity in Rui Borges' plans.
Without Issa Doumbia (called for the main selection of Italy) and Silas Andersen (called for the under-21s of Denmark), and with João Simões more focused on the recovery of physical indices (after a stop of about half a year due to injury), the Brazilian had, finally, space for a more personalized treatment by the coach mirandelense.
The trust Rui Borges has in Peter Lima remains intact, which was even reflected in the fact that last Friday the titular was placed in the practice game with the Atlético Clube de Portugal, at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy in Alcochete, which culminated in a green and white victory, by 1-0.
The natural footballer from Brasília acted behind the spearhead (Bidu), a position that has even been reserved for Rodrigo Zalazar (who is also absent, in service of Uruguay, along with Maxi Araújo), immediately ahead of a midfield formed by Mateo Tanlongo and João Simões, and gave positive indicators.
He is increasingly identified with the dynamics of the vice-champions, and, in the face of the ‘tightening’ of the Sporting calendar, everything points out that he even deserves greater use, not only in the physical management perspective of the squad, but also in order to give another tactical variability to it.
‘Crazy’ on the Sporting calendar
The ‘Dossier Pedro Lima’ gains another level of importance if we take into account the authentic ‘madness’ in which it will become the Sporting team, already from 8:15 p.m. (Hour of Continental Portugal) next Friday, with what is the game ‘poster head’ of the eighth day of the I Liga, before Sporting Braga, in the Municipal Stadium of Braga.
There will be clashes with Lens (October 13, at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis), LASK Linz (October 21, at the José Alvalade Stadium), Scholarship of Viseu (October 25, at the José Alvalade Stadium), Maritime (October 27, at the José Alvalade Stadium), Casa Pia (October 30, at the Rio Maior Municipal Stadium), Shakhtar Donetsk (November 3, at Stamford Bridge) and Moreirense (November 7, at the José Alvalade Stadium).
Only after this phase (which may prove to be decisive in the accounts of the I League, the League of Champions and the League Cup) will lions have a new opportunity to ‘breath’, with one more break for selections, so Rui Borges will have no solution but to manage the physical plan of the group he has at his disposal.
