Um man was arrested by GNR for domestic violence, in the municipality of Almada, suspected of physically assaulting, coercing to maintain sexual intercourse and threatening with a white gun the woman, was today released.
The GNR Territorial Setúbal Command explains, in a statement, that the 42-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after a 49-year-old victim alert.
“On the night of November 4th (Wednesday), the victim, being prevented from telephone contacting the authorities, managed to request assistance from GNR by e-mail, denouncing a situation of domestic violence”, reads the document.
According to the GNR, “in the face of the gravity of the reported facts”, the Guard’s military “responsive immediately to the request for help”, moving a patrol to the scene to assist the victim and developing the necessary steps.
“In the course of the intervention, it was possible to ascertain that the suspect would have physically assaulted the victim, coerced to have sexual intercourse and threatened it using a white gun,” the statement reads.
In view of the situation, the GNR military ensured the follow-up of the victim to a hospital unit, where she received medical care, and was subsequently referred to a shelter to support victims of domestic violence, to ensure its protection and safety.
The action, according to the Guard, also resulted in the seizure of a white gun, allegedly used by the suspect to threaten the victim.
The detainee was present at the Seixal Court on Friday, and the measures for the coercion of periodic presentations three times a week were applied to him and the prohibition on the approximation of the victim.
