Pat his visit and encountering the fires that affected the Cairngorms region in Scotland, Charles III left a message on social media showing solidarity with all those affected and calling for urgency in combating climate change.

“ My wife and I were appalled by the devastating impact of this summer’s forest fires and the terrible destruction they have caused to homes, livelihoods and landscapes, not only in this beautiful region of the Cairngorms, but throughout the UK and – as we have seen – in other parts of Europe,” the monarch said.

“ I can only express my admiration and gratitude to all those who have worked so tirelessly and courageously in the UK and beyond to control these fires, as well as to those who support the communities facing the long path of recovery and renewal that still lie ahead,” he added.

“ The shock of witnessing these fires around the world in recent months strongly reminds us of the increasing pressures that prolonged heat and drought are exerting on our precious Earth, as well as of the increasingly urgent need not only to strengthen our collective resilience – including through the preparation and reduction of risks – but also to combat the root causes of climate change that, if not addressed, run the risk of creating conditions that will make such tragic and costly events ever more frequent,” he continued.

“ While the work of recovery continues for many, the compassion and strength of the affected communities are evident. It is my most sincere hope that they will continue to find in each other the strength needed to rebuild”, concluded the king in the message he left on social networks.
