Iran has today accused the United States of refusing to grant visas to members of the Iranian President's communication team, Masoud Pezeshkian, to the United Nations General Assembly this week in New York.

O spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, accused the United States authorities of trying “to foment their misinformation campaign by stepping on the right to access to information” by refusing entry to journalists.

“ When a government slams the door in the face — even to American journalists it does not like — and prohibits access to foreign reporters, including the Iranian President's communication team, whose voice would prefer to silence, it is not about managing access to information. It is about trying to hide the truth,” Baghaei said on social networks, where he also referred to the ban imposed by US President Donald Trump on journalists from CNN, MS NOW and the Political portal.

“ The nation that is proud to have overthrown the Iron Curtain is now under its own,” Baghaei added, referring to the fall of the Soviet bloc after the Cold War.

Trump expressed his willingness on Sunday to meet with Pezeshkian, taking advantage of his visit to New York at the annual session of the UN General Assembly.

“He [Trump] said he’d probably be open to it,” said Fox News reporter and correspondent in Jerusalem, Trey Yingst, after a conversation with the Republican leader.

To be confirmed, Pezeshkian's visit will be the first of an Iranian high-ranking officer to the U.S. territory since the beginning of the war, triggered in late February by Israeli-American attacks.

A spokesman for the Iranian Presidency, Habibollah Abbassi, needed the President of the Islamic Republic to speak on Wednesday before the UN General Assembly, before returning to Tehran on Saturday, according to the Iranian agency Mehr.

According to the France-Presse news agency, the United States has authorized the Iranian delegation to go to the UN despite the ongoing conflict, but it will be subject, as has happened last year, to restrictions on its displacements.

Iranian representatives will not be able to buy luxury products or other articles, said the US State Department on Thursday, adding that the delegation was “less numerous than last year.”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is part of the delegation, left Tehran on Sunday night and stopped at Qatar, a mediating country in the conflict.

There are no details of this stop in Qatar, which occurs at a time when Iran claims to have transmitted back to the United States through Doha its conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Ormuz, at the centre of the conflict between Tehran and Washington.

Traffic on this maritime route, through which, before the war, one-fifth of world hydrocarbons were transiting, has been heavily disturbed by Tehran since the beginning of the war.

In turn, the United States is imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.

Although negotiations remain at a standstill, there has been a relative calm in recent days among the belligerents.

The United States has not attacked Iranian territory since September 1, when a series of bombings have caused, inter alia, five deaths and dozens of wounded during a marriage in the southeast of the country, although there are still regular attacks on ships in the Strait of Ormuz.

Still today two ships have been hit by shells of unknown origin, according to the UKMTO Maritime Safety Agency.

Although there are no direct attacks between Washington and Tehran, the Revolutionary Guard, the army of the Islamic Republic, threatened to hit “new targets”, with “new weapons”, in case of attack by the United States.
