A Iran’s Revolutionary Guard today argued that the country’s economy will not collapse, even if the US is pursuing a new plan to intensify the blockade of Tehran.
On Saturday, Washington announced the creation of a plan to prevent the transport of weapons and materials, subject to sanctions, across the land borders of the country and the Caspian Sea.
“The plan is just a word game and Americans will not achieve their goal of exerting strong economic pressure,” said Revolutionary Guard spokesman Houssein Mohebi, quoted by Fars news agency.
Mohebi recalled that the U.S. had warned that Iran would suffer an “economic collapse within weeks,” a forecast which he ensured would not come true.
The U.S. announced the creation of a military force, composed of 20 people, based in Florida, to prevent Iran from transporting advanced weapons systems, sanctioned materials and illicit revenues.
According to U.S. Central Command (Centcom), this operation will reinforce the US naval blockade against Iran.
Centcom said that the blockade of Iran has already prevented the country from exporting more than $25,000 million (about €22,000 million) in oil.
