Lswitzerland Montenegro meets today in Nova The second of three days of an official visit to the United States to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UN), and began the agenda with a meeting of about half an hour with the general secretary of the organization, Portuguese Antonio Guterres.

In the end, it was questioned by the media about what Portugal’s political alignment with the US administration, beginning by saying that “more than making an assessment and entering into polemic debates about what is said on this day or that one”, Portugal wants positive results, such as the security agreement signed between the US, Denmark and Greenland.

Questioned who was targeting when he mentioned last week that the path taken in the conflict in the Middle East was US and Iran “was a stupid path”, Montenegro said it was “a general criticism to all, to those who do not have the capacity to overcome this blockade of global development.”.

Asked to realise if this criticism includes the US Head of State, Montenegro replied affirmatively.

“ It includes everyone, this is absurd, we are all being harmed, we are all being penalized, we are all contributing to the environment, the social and economic atmosphere around the world being heavier and the difficulties appear in the lives of people, in the lives of businesses, in the lives of institutions and organisations too,” he said.

The Prime Minister left an appeal to the sense of general responsibility “who integrates all, leaves no one out”.

“ Here there are no exceptions, we are all called on, the parties involved and the parties who may have an intervention, to make our contribution. My wish is to take advantage of all the ongoing initiatives to restore a memorandum of understanding that can serve the interests of the conflicting parties,” he said, referring both to the conflict in the Middle East and to the war in Ukraine.
