“ Nthe war has come to the conclusion that, no doubt, we have to increase the range of our missiles and we are currently doing this task,” said Iranian Army spokesman, Brigadier General Mohammed Akraminia, in an interview with Fars agency.
According to the high-ranking military, so far the Army has worked effectively on the accuracy of missiles and future generations of projectiles that join the Armed Forces will have “greater capabilities” in this regard.
Akraminia assured that the decision was taken after the war began on 28 February, and taking into account that the enemy is “at a greater distance” from the country.
Akraminia's statements take place after General Yahya Rahim Safavi, advisor to the military affairs of Iran's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that the Islamic Republic could extend the war with the United States to the Indian Ocean if it was attacked again.
Iran has a large arsenal of missiles, many of them stored in underground facilities and, according to official Iranian data, some of the ballistic missiles, such as Seyil and the updated versions of the Shahab-3, have a range of up to 2,000 kilometres.
In March, the United Kingdom reported that Iran attacked with missiles a joint military base with the US on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, although Tehran denied it.
The war that the US and Israel launched against Iran on 28 February is at a dead point, writes the EFE agency, with the intensification of US sanctions and the naval blockade and occasional attacks by Tehran on oil tankers in the Strait of Ormuz.
