O new book written by Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” (“Swan Song: My Sister: Diana, My Sister” in Portuguese) has not yet reached the bookstores but the Daily Mail had access to some excerpts and the revelations are bombastic.
The Count recalls, for example, that his sister told him that he thought her husband, now King Charles III, was “in love with his chamberlain”. Charles even confesses that his sister invited him to lunch to tell him that he wanted to divorce the Prince of Wales for that very reason.
“I was silent for a moment. I knew the situation was bad, but not to that extent,” Spencer wrote.
“You have, of course, my full support... I know you've thought this through," he said to the princess. “But my main concern is the public. I'm afraid you won't forgive her. They believed in a fairy tale and I imagine they can very well, unfairly, blame her for destroying their fantasy ", wrote.
“She looked up to me, she sat down and said: “But Carlos, my husband is in love with his servant”you can still read it.
“ I swallowed it dry. “Well, I guess you really don’t have a choice in that case.” She didn't mention the employee's name, and I never asked her who she was or why she believed in something so unlikely. It did not matter, what mattered was the end of her marriage and her dreams ", says the book.
Buckingham Palace reacted to some of the excerpts from the book, mentioning that it is not customary to do so.
“ Although we do not comment on books in principle, His Majesty is aware that the pain of brotherly mourning can cloud reason, affect judgment and color the memory in ways that others do not recognize, even many years after such loss,” said a spokesman at Buckingham Palace.
The book written by Charles Spencer arrives in Portugal on September 22, 2026.
