“Forces of the 36th Division acted to clear the two underground tunnels in the area of Ali Taher hills, within the security zone. The forces obtained operational control of the range area, both above and below the ground, and expelled terrorists from the area, killing some while others fled ", can be read in a statement.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have highlighted that military operations to complete the cleaning of the area outside the city of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon are still underway.
“ Once the operations are completed, the FDI will reorganise their defensive position on the basis of a situation assessment”, they added.
The Israeli forces also explained that the military found “command centers, weapons warehouses, generator rooms, dormitories, showers and a kitchen” in the area, which allowed terrorists to launch attacks and stay on site “for long periods.”.
“ This is a strategic infrastructure built over two decades, funded and designed by the Iranian terrorist regime,” they highlighted.
The IDF also ensured that they will continue operating in southern Lebanon and will not allow Hezbollah to “promote terrorist plans”, warning the group that any attempt to attack Israel “will be received with a strong response.”.
Lebanon and Israel reached a preliminary agreement on 26 June, mediated by the United States, laying the foundations for a permanent ceasefire.
The pact includes the restoration of Lebanese sovereignty in the south of the country, but also the disarmament of Hezbollah, a requirement which the group categorically rejected in the midst of the constant clashes between the two sides.
