O american daily ‘Washington Post’ repudiated the evasive Israeli Government in the face of the aggression suffered today by its photojournalist Heidi Levine at the hands of a group of settlers in the West Bank.
After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released “serious doubts” about what he described as a “fronting”, the editor-in-chief of the diary, Matt Murray, replied on social media that there is no ambiguity about what happened to Levine while covering the olive harvest in the West Bank town of Abú Falá.
“To be clear: some facts are not under discussion or ambiguous. Our photographer was clearly identified as press,” Murray said. “She was clearly assaulted. These are neither party nor ridiculous statements, but indisputable. We demand an exhaustive investigation and an account”, concluded editor-in-chief of the journal.
In a video released from the hospital, the journalist denounced a “brutal” aggression by “at least 50 masked men”.
“ They attacked me and threw me down. Fortunately, I was wearing the helmet, otherwise I probably wouldn’t even be here, because they kept beating me, about 50 times, and after about ten minutes they tried to get me up, but then they threw me back on the ground and continued beating me,” he said.
The Foreign Press Association said that the journalist “suffered moderate injuries and was treated in a local hospital by blows and injuries, some penetrating, all over the body,” before adding that “the settlers stole his passport, phone, wallet and equipment” during the incidents.
