A far-right candidate for the French Presidency, Marine Le Pen, today criticised the government for not stopping the riots in several cities of France on Saturday, declaring it “the only one who has the courage to enforce the law”.
In an interview with France Info public station, the first since the violent acts of last weekend, Le Pen sent messages supporting the police and promised to double the number of magistrates.
“ We have 10 magistrates per 100,000 inhabitants and we need to get to 20. It is a budgetary effort that has to be made, because it depends on the safety of everyone”, said the far-right candidate, who promised firmness.
Marine Le Pen ensured that if he arrives at the Elisha Palace in the presidential elections of 2027, those responsible for thefts and violent acts “will pay” for the acts they commit.
“ The parents of the minors will answer for it. When this idea gets into their heads, they will think twice before destroying other people’s goods”, he said.
After the serious riots and looting recorded on the weekend in the French capital and other cities, it was decreed to collect mandatory in some areas of Paris.
At least 2,400 people were arrested throughout the country during the incidents, which included looting of hundreds of commercial establishments and attacks on public buildings.
The leader of the far right said that the situation experienced in France is a reflection of “a power in decline that does not control the situation” and that “it was not able to predict something that was predictable”, because it was “stuck in an ideological denial” that led the country to “migratory, budgetary and security”.
As to the measures taken, Le Pen expressed doubts that the partial curfew, decreed in some cities, is sufficient to restore order.
On the other hand, the extreme right-wing candidate stated that she received government security guarantees for the holding of the congress of the Rassemblement National party, scheduled for the weekend, in Orléans, centre of France.
