Othree men and one woman arrested in Leiria, suspected of drug trafficking and computer scams, will await the development of the inquiry in pre-trial detention, told Lusa source of the Judicial Police (PJ).

In a statement issued today, PJ revealed that, through the Leiria Criminal Investigation Department, and in the context of an investigation into drug trafficking, it has in recent days arrested suspects in the city of Leiria, who are “strongly indicted of the practice of drug trafficking crimes and criminal association”.

Also according to PJ, the defendants, all foreigners and residents of the country, “have no known legal activity, living exclusively from the proceeds of illicit activities to which they were dedicated”.

The arrests occurred following home searches, which resulted in the seizure of “a significant amount of cannabis MDMA (“ecstasy”), LSD in liquid form, precision scales, cutting tools, mills, mobile phones” and SIM cards, “material that clearly shows the drug trafficking activity to which the suspects were dedicated”, the statement was advanced.

In the operation, called “Corrupio”, “a cash amount of EUR 60,000, a professional equipment to count notes, a TPA equipment with ‘contactless’ technology, four high-end cars, a water bike”, and “17 bank cards on behalf of several holders (third parties)” were confiscated.

“ Taking into account the material now seized and the elements collated during the investigation so far developed, it all indicates that the detainees were part of a criminal organization dedicated not only to drug trafficking, but also to the practice of computer fraud crimes, using various methodologies, as well as computer and telecommunications equipment and equipment”, said the statement.

PJ added in the statement that the investigations continue.
