Leitão Amaro holds the PS leader responsible for errors in migration policy

“ Um of the main responsible for the errors of the migration policy of the PS is today the leader of the PS ", accused António Leitão Amaro, in a regimental hearing in the parliamentary committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, in response to the accusations of socialist MP Isabel Moreira to be advertising.

“ Who is today [leader of the PS] had responsibility of the consular network and the Internal Administration in various matters” related to migrations, said, recalling the functions of José Luís Carneiro, who was Secretary of State of the Portuguese Communities and Minister of the Internal Administration of the last socialist governments.

At the hearing, Mrs Moreira accused the minister of using her initial speech to campaign politically, in a “total disregard for parliament”.

“With me, you will not impose single thought,” replied Leitão Amaro, accusing “some PS radicals” of not assuming what you consider to be previous mistakes.

“You may not like that your government’s policy mistakes are remembered”, but “if you have difficulty with your government’s mistakes, solve them,” she insisted.

“ After a wise recognition of the former leader Pedro Nuno Santos” in relation to the migration policy of the PS, now “there is a new ruckus”, with the “severe statement of the [present-day] leader of the PS when he said that we could not even be sure” of the number of foreigners in Portugal, he said.

“ We have a denialist José Luís Carneiro, not only of the mistakes he made, but of reality” and “contains the official statistics”, accused the Minister and leader of the PSD.

At the hearing, socialist MP Elza Pais accused Leitão Amaro of not being able to “explain the flaws of politics itself”, preferring to address attacks to the leader of the PS.

This “because he knows” that José Luís Carneiro “is a responsible person and is a person people trust,” he added.
