O spokesperson for Livre Jorge Pinto today considered it clear that the Internal Administration Inspectorate (IGAI) would have to open an administrative process to incidents that occurred early on Thursday in Porto and caused 39 injuries.

“ It was clear that IGAI would have to find out what happened here and, in fact, Livre, immediately after what happened here early on Wednesday, sent a series of questions to the Minister of the Internal Administration, where, among other things, we demanded clarification regarding the chain of command, who finally gave orders to happen what happened and who has the responsibility for all the free and completely disproportionate violence that we saw here”, said in Porto where he joined the protest of the movement for housing.

And he continued: “This process that IGAI will now open makes perfect sense, it is the natural process of things, we will look forward to its conclusions”.

Jorge Pinto also criticized the “disproportionality of an unheard-of brutality”, verified that morning, “something that is, I think, unheard of in the history” of democracy in Portugal, “against peaceful protesters (...), who continue to be peaceful and, perhaps, this is also not pleasing to the Government”.

For the deputy, the government has “made almost provocative statements” in relation to what happened in Porto, “be the Prime Minister when he talks about selfish reasons to be here, be it today Minister Carlos Abreu Amorim once again trying to provoke protesters almost as though they want violence”.

For the politician, what “these people in Porto have shown is that they are peaceful, that they are exercising their legitimate and democratic right to demonstration in a peaceful way”, saying, “very convinced that it will continue to be so”, thus showing that “the government is not acting properly”

Jorge Pinto also assigned responsibilities for the success of the mayor of Porto, when “they say that it must be relentless, it is clear that what happens the day after these statements cannot be turned off from these statements of Pedro Duarte”.

“ And the next day I come to cry over the spilled milk, almost blaming myself about what happened here, well, maybe I should have done it before. should have thought about how there could be a more effective dialogue with the people who are here and assume their responsibilities as mayor,” he said.

On Thursday night, from 7:00 p.m., about three thousand people concentrated to demonstrate by the right to housing, following a camp that began on Saturday and had municipal cleaning intervention on Monday, first, and a police charge in the early hours of Thursday, after which resulted four dozen wounded, with the organization ensuring that it was always peaceful and the PSP to defend that there was “resistance”.

The last concentration moved for a few minutes to the House of Porto, in front of which the protest took place before returning to the square D. João I in which it has been running since the beginning.

The organizers called for the return to the site on Saturday, with the city's permission, throughout the day, in parallel with the action called for that day by CGTP.
