Profits from Portugal's Infrastructures fall 44% to 43.8 million

Portugal’s Infrastructures (IP) recorded a consolidated profit of EUR 43.8 million in the first half, minus 44% in homologous terms, penalised by the increase in operational expenditure, partly due to weather, and by the reduction of some incomes.

O result before interest, taxes, depreciations and depreciations (EBITDA) dropped 15%, to 227.3 million euros, while the operational result dropped 28.6%, to 113.7 million euros, according to the information released today to the Securities Market Commission (SCM).

According to the company, the evolution of results reflected, among other factors, a reduction of EUR 17.7 million in revenues associated with the Consignation of the Road Service (CSR) and a decrease of EUR 9.1 million in other incomes and gains.

The IP also points to an increase of EUR 41.5 million in operational expenditure, related, inter alia, to interventions to conserve and restore the operational conditions of the infrastructure affected by the weather in the first months of the year.

Among the weather phenomena, the report highlights storm Kristin of January 28 and other episodes of intense and persistent precipitation during February.

According to the document, more than 4,200 occurrences were recorded in the road and rail networks, with IP mobilizing about 2,000 operations and reaching about 200 daily interventions.

In the road network alone, 3,441 occurrences were identified and the investment needed to repair the damage, including additional expenditure, is estimated at EUR 380 million.

On the railway, adverse weather conditions caused train suppression and temporary closure of sections, leading to an estimated reduction of more than 650 thousand train-kilometres and an impact of around EUR 1.7 million on revenues.

Turnover increased by 1% in the first half to EUR 665.8 million, while investment grew by 11% to EUR 281 million.

In the road component, investment increased by 13% to EUR 76.1 million, while in the railway it fell by 6% to EUR 171.5 million.

The Atlantic CAM submarine cable project represented an investment of 27.9 million euros in the semester.

At the end of June, IP’s financial debt amounted to EUR 3,130 million, minus EUR 85.4 million, a reduction which the company attributed exclusively to the expected capital depreciation of loans from the EIB.
