A team of the campaign of the President of Brazil and candidate for re-election, Lula da Silva, accused on Saturday the technology company and social networks Meta, of “interferences”, claiming blocks of its contents.

In a statement quoted by the Agência France Presse, the team states that in recent days, the US technology giant “impeded President Lula’s profile to promote ‘feed’ publications on Instagram,” while a publication of her official account “suffered an interruption in the viewing count, which affected her reach.”.

Luís Inácio ‘Lula’ da Silva faces, in the second round of Brazil’s presidential elections, on October 25, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former extreme-right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro, who held the post between 2019 and 2022.

The team of the left-wing leader, who is running for a fourth presidential term, also denounced that, before the first round of last Sunday, Bolsonaro won (47% against 45%), Lula’s page and those of other left-wing leaders “suddenly disappeared from the Instagram search engine”.

Meta assigned these episodes to technical problems.

“ The allegations are simply false and are not based on any fact. Many of the technical problems mentioned did not affect Brazil exclusively, nor specific accounts ", defended Meta's subsidiary in Brazil, in an email sent to Agência France Presse.

The company also added that it respects electoral rules and is committed “to ensuring a level playing field” in the use of platforms.

Lula da Silva's campaign team has already reported a complaint to the electoral court against alleged blockades.

After the first round of the elections, the octogenarian president, who does not use mobile phones, implemented a strategy focused on social networks, where he began to publish videos.
