A madalena Costa today revalidated the senior world title of free artistic skating in Asunción, where João Cruz became junior champion and Rita Azinheira won the silver medal.

Madalena Costa won the World Skateboard Games senior competition, which took place in the capital of Paraguay, with 264.69 points, improving the 260.15 that gave her the world title in 2025.

The Madeiran skater surpassed the Spanish Sira Bella Gallardo, second ranked, with 220.41 points, and the Italian Elna Frances, third, with 187.01.

Madalena Costa, 17 years old, won in 2025, China, Portugal's first ever senior world title in free artistic skating.

Madeira had already been a junior world champion in 2023, in Ibagué, Colombia, and in 2024, in Rimini, Italy.

The skater of the Sporting Club Santacruz arrived in Asunción after revalidating, in September, the senior European title, in Ponte di Legno, Italy, where she won with 256.16 points.

Portugal also added two medals in the junior free skating competitions, with João Cruz winning the world title in the men's race and Rita Azinheira winning the silver medal in the women's competition.

For his part, Leticia Marinho finished seventh and Mariana Almeida in ninth among seniors. In the senior male competition, Diogo Nogueira was seventh and Martim Rodrigues finished at number 13.

Portugal thus adds two world titles and a silver medal in the free skating of the World Skate Games, whose artistic skating competition continues in Asunción and may also increase the national medalist.

The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, congratulated Madalena Costa on the revalidation of the world title and the new scoring record, highlighting “the talent of the skater and its place among the biggest figures of Portuguese sport”.

In the same message, the head of state congratulated João Cruz, world champion of artistic skating in juniors, and Rita Azinheira, vice champion of the world in the same category, considering that “the results affirm the vitality and future of the modality in Portugal”.

António José Seguro also highlighted “remarkable route” of the Portuguese team of hockey in under-19 skates, world runner-up, in the competition.

The Portuguese entourage performed at the World Skate Games after winning 12 medals in the free skating and dancing disciplines in the last European Championship in senior and junior classes.
